Lake Leelanau is one of the best places to celebrate National Lazy Day!
because sand between your toes beats video games EVERY TIME...
Northern Michigan anytime of year...especially summer. A couple hour drive north and you feel worlds away...only to remember you are in the great northern skies of Michigan.
Sunsets
A summer sunset on Lake Michigan. South Haven, Grand Haven or your own private stretch of Heaven, sitting & watching the days light sink into the water is amazing. You realize, I am but a grain of sand in this large sandbox. Simply, West Michigan.
Balloon illume
The air n balloon festival in Battle Creek is like no other. Especially ballon illume...very beautiful sight to see. Or see the art n free concerts in the heart of Grand Rapids. Maybe swing by one of the many local breweries to try a new beer.

I love the cooperative spirit and philanthropic nature of those who rehabbed my old junior high school into my now living space. It is gorgeous, and affordable, and our neighborhood is beautiful these days, good things inspire others!
Beautiful beaches, scenery, camping and clean air.
Simply Amazing!!!
Best parks and campgrounds in the country. Great urban areas with 24/7 activities. Fantastic companies to work for and a healthy economy full of opportunities. But most importantly, my grand kids live here.
Great beaches, the best State Parks, fun festivals and four seasons of natural beauty. Love it!
Breweries like this one, Pigeon Hill, in Muskegon are popping up everywhere, adding just another fun activity to do on top of the many others!
This city loves it's people and gives back every chance it gets!
Grand Haven, beaches, Lake Michigan, musical fountains at Grand Haven.
It isn't !
See the moon rise over Lake Huron
West Michigan has the most beautiful beaches and even in winter the shoreline is a gorgeous site. Plenty of opportunity for summer and winter sports. I enjoy biking the trails and strolling through the plentiful art festivals.
From my home near downtown Grand Rapids, I can be hiking in the woods or an orchard in 15 minutes, to numerous Lake Michigan beaches in 40 minutes and many charming small towns within an hour. Within a mile walk of home, I can experience the city!
I fell in love with western Michigan the first time I visited South Haven in the 90s. I go back at least once a year. I'll be there the end of August this year.
West Michigan is the perfect mix for Everything ,The most crisp ,clean, awesome beaches, ,skiing in the winter , The people, the food,, I could go on, .. Just come visit and see!

God created the world in 6 days, the 7th he rested. He leaned back on his arm and left a handprint,he named it Michigan. He dusted his hands off and all the sand fellcreating the most beautiful coast line in the world.Come see how God spent his day off
West Michigan has everything you need. Snow in the winter for skiing, spring weather for the green thumb, beautiful summers at the beach, and crisp falls filled with apple orchards, and football games. A great place to raise a family!
West Michigan offers all the benefits and access to culture that a big city affords, but with proximity to natural resources and rural settings to satisfy everyone. maintaining the quality of what we all enjoy.
Love the local food culture & farm markets - Michigan is 2nd to California in the diversity of crops grown. WM is a great place to raise a family. We ski in both winter & summer - and occasionally make the 2-hour drive to Chicago for a weekend trip.
West Michigan is a perfect place for nature-lovers. Exploring the coast of Lake Michigan can be beautiful in both the summer and the winter.
beautiful countryside and some of the best discgolf courses in the USA ,great people too
It can tap the shore
licking small toes,
quickly build to a
thunderous roar,
Exposing a sinful side.
Driven by nature
never in complete control
of changing dispositions.
Wicked, melodic and serene
Great lakes never
predicted.....
All 4 seasons make for beautiful views, and it's hard to top any of the numerous beaches around! There's a wide variety of things to do and places to go. It's so easy to love West Michigan!
80 inches of snow and 80 degree days all in the same year. Beautiful ski slopes and beaches that are easily accessible from wherever you are in West Michigan. Prestine downtowns or down on the farm. There's something here for everyone.
I have LOTS of reasons. A few: Beautiful country roads and trails to jog. A short commute from work, and I'm back in farm country. A community full of warm and genuine people.
West Michigan has it all - the 4 seasons, beautiful beaches & lakes, events such as Art Prize, Laugh Fest, sporting events & venues. The list could go on and on. It is a GREAT place to live for all phases of your life. Truly a hidden GEM!
Culinary jems that rival NY, CHI, and LA - all within reach.
The Corner Bar in Rockford. Not only is their food great but they have some national recognition for their Hot Dog Hall of Fame. The current professional record is 43 1/2 dogs in 4 hours and the amateur record is 43 dogs in 4 hours.
It's great to hit the links on a warm summer day with friends, family, co-workers, and visitors. There are so many golf courses to choose from to meet your skill level and price. The golf courses are incredible!
So much to do all year round: Laugh Fest, Whitecaps, Meijer Garden Concert Series, Picnic Pops, museums, Art Prize, Celebration on the Grand, Rock the Rapids, skiing, snowboarding, biking and the list goes on!
Frederick Meijer Gardens is our reason for loving West Michigan. The big horse is a must see landmark.
where else can you experience all the weather the world has to offer. we get desert heat and drought, rain forest downpours and freezing cold. the best and worst of all weather
Pere Marquette in Winter
Pere Marqette sunsets
One more! :
One more reason:
I really enjoy Traverse city and Northport. The first time I saw a waterspout was in Northport. The dunes are cool also. But I'm afraid I'm partial to Alpena! Sorry
Antique hunting, amazing sunsets, great food, miles of beaches (unsalted), and where else would you find a place called Whipee Dip! Only in West Michigan. Let's not keep this a secret any longer.
W MI let's my worlds intertwine. As a Board Director for High Five Co-op Brewery, freelance writer @Roadbelly,@MittenBrew, & wife of a Chef,I get to sample all the amazing food & beer W MI has to offer.Happy we made the move from DC six years ago!
World-class Health Care!
Nothing beats an early morning of fishing on Lake Michigan in the Summer, except maybe going to the orchards in the Fall! It's amazing to have so many different options of things to do right in your backyard!
My favorite thing about West Michigan is the amazing views of Lake Michigan. The bluest waters in the summer and quite an awesome force in the winter. The greatest of lakes for sure.
You can stay busy all week with great arts & cultural programs from ballet to professional theatre to film to concerts at great prices (even free parking!).
The beauty of Lake Michigan winter, spring, summer, or fall!
The beautiful golf courses and beaches. Of course, the always wonderful Grand Valley State University. There is nothing like the Michigan life back in the Chicago area.
West MI is my home & the place I choose to raise my family. We love all of the options to have wonderful close-to-home vacations. From St. Joseph/Silver Lake Beach, Sleeping Bear Dunes to Saugatuck... the list is endless...
It's a lot better than central Michigan!
My reason was a Fricanos pizza and a drink on the Snug deck afterwards.
I like Grand Rapids because it is a city on the move. Great arts, culture, coffee, beer and food. Since we moved here, several friends have come to visit and they've all said "Oh, I get it now!"
People ask me if the pace of life is a lot slower here than it was in Los Angeles, where we lived for years. On the contrary! There is so much to do, and it's all so easily accessible, that I can fit much more work and fun into each day.
Downtown life of Chicago without the price and hassle, I live 10min from downtown and my rent does not break the bank!
The people and family the sandy beaches and the four seasons. There is so many fun things to do, I can't name them all...
I love living in Holland. We have an amazing downtown, beaches, and Tulip Time. I get to live where others come to vacation!
I moved out to West Michigan for college and once I experienced all of the great things this area has to offer, I had to stick around! I love the vibrant downtown GR community- you get the best of a big city and a small town together!
There is no place on earth like West Michigan. The thriving art/culture and entertainment scene is something you would expect to find in a larger city, yet you can find safe, affordable housing that is less than an hour from the beach!
I love West Michigan for so many reasons!!! We're a short distance from beautiful sunsets, woods, beaches, bike trails, a vibrant and thriving downtown! Besides all that, West Michigan is a great place to raise a family!
My partner and I moved from GR to Chicago three years ago to attend graduate school and seek out better opportunities. Grand Rapids is growing and changing...we now prefer GR over Chicago.
Glad I found this jewel! Great community, low cost of living, great schools, the arts, humming economy, world class food and breweries, vibrant downtown, 4 perfect seasons, and breathtaking natural beauty. Come take a look, you won't want to leave!
I grew up in GR and live in CHI. I was unable to find a job in MI. Each trip I make home to visit friends or family makes me miss the state more and more. The longer I've been away, the harder it is to leave Michigan when the long weekend is over.
GR is an excellent basecamp to change the world. Looking at national opportunities, no one provided me this kind of opportunity. We may lack VC roots, but there's no place I'd rather do business, & no better ground zero for the revolution.
Gorgeous beaches, bike paths everywhere, unspoiled sand dunes, friendly people, endless craft breweries, music festivals, art festivals, minimal traffic, low taxes. Real sense of community. Affordability that lets you enjoy life! (a former Chicagoan)
Lake effect snow, 27 minutes from a Lake Michigan sunset, 10 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids, affordability and less than 2.5 hours from family!
Big city feel with small town comaraderie. Plethora of trails for running and biking. Breathtaking sunsets. Breweries....lots of breweries. A short drive to Lake MI. I love this place. I love, love, love it.
30 miles.
From downtown GR it's less than 30 miles to mountain biking in the forest, fishing in a river, or swimming in Lake MIchigan.
I love Michigan, because it regularly smells like bonfires and grilling. Amazing!!!
MI is all about community. The fundraisers, 5K's, art prize, and endless festivals all bring people together that allow a sense of self gratification that you gave back to a state that has given so much to you!
Simple variety, seasons and the weather. We prefer outdoor recreation most of all. You can bring practically any kind of game or sporting equipment, or just an inquisitive mind, and do something fun.
Affordable housing, wonderful employment opportunities, 4 beautiful seasons, fabulous restaurants and microbrewerys - quaint beach towns along miles of gorgeous lakeshore - need I say more?
Warm green lush summers, gorgeous crips falls, white frosty winters, and flowery springs. All four seasons, rendered at their best.
MI reason I love living in West Michigan is the miles of beautiful trails to walk, bike, hike, or ski any season.
Hurricanes/tropical storms-not here!, rattlesnakes-not so much, tarantulas/black widows-not naturally.
Where else can you find hip, urban, family & bike friendly life that casually takes you through farms & orchards to the best UNSALTED lakes?
My reason? Beer. Grand Rapids (aka BeerCity USA) and surrounding areas offer some of the best craft beer you'll ever have. Founders, Brewery Vivant, New Holland, Saugatuck, Pike 51 and more. And for you cider lovers, check out Vander Mill!
Grand Rapids provides us with so many opportunities to become involved and be a part of the community...we never felt that way in the near decade we lived Chicago.
My #MIReason is that you can go from a vibrant urban neighborhood to the splendor of the outdoors without having to hop in a plane. It's all accessible right here in Michigan.
My reason is simple, I love to work hard and play hard. West Michigan offers the perfect balance between work and play. No matter what your interest is, someone here shares it and is willing to dive into it with you. We are GR!
Both my husband and I have enjoyed living in West Michigan, especially in Grand Rapids. We love living downtown and being able to walk to our favorite restaurants, museums, shops, and farmer's market!
I enjoy the variety that West Michigan has to offer. All four seasons come to West Michigan every year and brings breathtaking weather patterns along with a wide variety of outdoor activities.
My wife and I moved back to Michigan from Chicago to start a family 10 years ago. We love living in Grand Haven! A beautiful city with terrific schools and SO much to do. I have a great career here and am proud to call West Michigan home.
West Michigan is a great place to raise a family. Very well rounded community with endless possibilities! Beaches, Colleges, Vibrant Downtown, just to name a few!
West Michigan is such a welcoming community. Great food, people and entertainment. The city has awesome opportunities and experiences that will make you never want to leave.
I have lived here for over 30 years and am proud of what the area has become. We are small enough to have a sense of community but still have some of the best arts, entertainment, nightlife, waterfront, etc to make it the perfect place to call home.
Grand Rapids is a beautiful up and coming city, and just a short distance from beautiful beaches. The city is clean, family oriented and buzzing with things to do on a constant basis. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else.
Big fish, small pond. Who wants to be just another number in a big city? Come be a part of a community that is actively creating its identity every single day. Bring your dream, and make it happen!
I'm from Australia and my husband is from Germany - we continue to feel very welcomed in this community and have great friends here!
Beer, beer, beer, beer, and more beer.
I have lived outside of Philadelphia, in a suburb of New York and to the west of Chicago. I now live inside of west Michigan and feel more connected then ever before. Come to west Michigan and leave your mark!
I chose West Michigan for the GVSU campus. It is close to home, and there's always tons going on in downtown GR.
